One of the exhilarating and challenging aspects of designing for film, are the multiple parameters to consider to achieve the desired look on the screen. The challenge of this Set was that it needed to accommodate several Stunts, Special FX, Visual FX and be practical for the Camera Department to shoot, all while moving across the desert. In the Story the Vampires needed a dark environment while they traveled from place to place, that would not allow sunlight to enter causing them harm. The solution was to clad our set facade walls onto shipping containers and build it on trailers to be pulled by a semi truck.  This allowed for quicker Turn Arounds ( the ability to shoot over and over for each Take) without having to move a practical train back and forth along a track that did not exist in the desert where we needed to shoot this scene. We could also build ramps and cages to accommodate the stunts that were performed on top of, side of and through the train cars. Later in Post Production the tire wheels were erased and the train track was added digitally. Drawings, Concept Paintings, Physical Models, Digital Models and Previs Animations were created to present to the Director and to each of the departments involved to get their feedback to arrive at a final design.
